Almost half of this country's population lives along the coasts. Those communities are more aware now than ever about the the wetlands that surround them. They work and live within their boundaries, drawing from the resources around them to improve upon lives for the local, national and international communities that have become co-dependent on each others' resources. Louisiana's coast line is no different from the rest of the country.

The poulation of Louisiana was recorded in 1990 as over 4.2 million residents and growing around 100,000+ people a year. These are small towns, mid-size cities and larger metropolis areas that are full of families, unique cultures and histories that helped create the structure of an entire country.
These are families whose histories are based on working the land and water. They built homes, schools and communities to make a better life. They are no different than a farm in the midwest or a fishing community on either of the other coasts. These are also people who have maintained and enjoyed their cultural heritage with music, food, stories, languages, and many other unique elements that make them an important integral part of the American family life.

More than 2 million people in inland south Louisiana will be subject to more severe and frequent flooding than ever before. Coastal communities will become shorefront towns, and the economic and cultural costs of relocation are estimated in the billions of dollars.
While the national media and government acknowledges that Louisiana's wetlands are directly responsible for most of the gas and oil industry and the nation's seafood industry, it is Voice of the Wetland's wish to make clear the direct effect the declining wetlands has on its people, heritage, and way of life for one of the richest states in tradition and cultures in all of the world.
